I used an HP 4280 Printer/Scanner - it was actually GIVEN to me by the 'genius' folks at the Apple store when I bought my Mac... As a promotion. It worked for a while (I use a wireless network in my home) - then every time I tried to print something I got a message stating my printer was 'offline.' The printer was clearly turned on and working fine, and attempts to repair the problem by rebooting the computer and rebooting the printer and then reloading the printer software didn't work. Going to the HP site to troubleshoot, they offer a software 'patch' for this problem, but the PATCH IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR MACS!!!!!!!!! Don't support HP. I actually like my printer, and when it worked, it was great. But they don't give a CR*P about Mac or Mac users... OK, here goes. Remember that these instructions are for an HP Photosmart 7510 all-in-one wireless printer. The first thing I did was disable the low-power sleep mode of the printer. I can't remember how to do this, but you should be able to find the information readily on the internet. You will then need to make changes in 2 places, the printer and your router. 1) I'll proivide some screenshots below. You need to go into the printer setup and select networking. From there you get a choice for 'Automatic' or 'Manual'. The default is Automatic. Change this to manual. 2) Provide an 'IP Address' that is in the range of addresses you have selected for your home network. ![]() 3) Bring up your router manager window in Safari. Mine is a Netgear router, but yours will have similar functionality. 4) Reserve the address you picked for the printer and save the router settings. 5) You have now disabled DHCP for the printer and, in this case, assigned it an IP address of 192.168.1.110 6) Restart the printer and you should be good to go. This address is now reserved for the printer, and the DHCP server in the router will not try to assign it to anything else. ![]() Man, you're the best for putting this up. I'll pursue it. In the meantime, my wife had some luck. We had basically had the same experience that had. Our printer was great for about a week, then it wouldn't print wirelessly. So we called HP, who told us to call our local ISP. We thought we were getting the blowoff, but we did call Cox just for giggles. Well, they told us to reboot our router and cable modem and boom, it worked. Well, it's just one of those things. Apparently when you do things like add new printers, upgrade to new operating systems and such, you make subtle changes to your network configurations.
